Mom's Yo-Yo Quilt

I made this quilt for my mom this last Christmas.  After making all the yo-yos, I sewed them on by hand.  I think that gives it a really antique, one of a kind look.  I rooted through my fabrics and used almost all leftovers from other projects.  The hardest decision was what color to make the background.  In the end, I picked a manilla, kind of plain color.  This helps it to look antique, and lets the fabrics stand out.

I really like the way the back has the graphic design of the circles, with the hand sewn imperfect stiches.

  1. This is really nice heirloom quality work. It really works well on this old iron bedstead too. I'm sure that your mom will treasure it...Nice job!

    1. Very nice, I have never been a fan of yo-yo's before as they always looked like you did so many to pile 1 on top of an other one or some such for a project but this quilt has changed my mind big time. I just love the colors, sizes, etc. I am going to put this in my someday use up my scraps file. As I am losing my mobility from spinal stenosis I am looking for more hand projects. I have always liked the feel of a needle in my hands. Thank-you.

    2. I LOVE your yo yo quilt! Is there a pattern available? I'd like to know what size yo yo's you used, and if you used a special thread to sew them on, and how the edges are finished. This is JUST BEAUTIFUL!
